Profile
Since landing my first job in the media in 1999, I have worked in marketing, PR, editorial and advertising. Writing is my passion, be it three words on a drink can or 3000 for a magazine.
I cut my teeth in publishing at ACP Books, publishers of the time-honoured Australian Women’s Weekly cookbook series. A three-year foray into the marketing department of the women’s lifestyle section of ACP, Australia’s largest magazine publishing company, saw me gain a deeper understanding of the business of magazines. By age 22, I was assistant brand manager on GoodMedicine (now Good Health & Medicine) and Burke’s Backyard magazines, answering directly to the marketing manager.
To bring my career in line with my editorial dream, I left Australia for one of the world’s leading media centres, London. After almost three years and roles as production editor, sub-editor and staff writer on two titles, I eventually returned to Sydney in 2006.
Much of 2007 was spent as deputy editor on My Child, an upmarket parenting magazine, but I made the lifestyle choice to go freelance in early 2008. As well as writing travel and health features for magazines and newspapers, I am a regular sub-editor at Fairfax and other publishing companies, and write and edit copy for corporate clients.
After words, my second passion is travel – be it with backpack, campervan or matching luggage – and I have spent one year travelling Asia, another in Europe and many smaller trips in between.
